Zulawy Loop and the Elblag Canal » Milomlyn

The city Miłomłyn is located on the Elblag Canal, in the region of Warmia and Mazury, in the district of Ostróda.

City Miłomłyn founded at the turn of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, first as a watchtower Teutonic, later in the fourteenth century castle was built here and the mill, next to the fortress was established settlement whih was received city status in 1380 year.

During the Thirteen Years' War town every move it passed into the hands of Polish is in the hands of the Teutonic Knights. In the years 1567- 1587 offices here last evangelical bishops. During the subsequent wars city every time it was destroyed. 

The development of the town in the nineteenth century contributed to the construction of Elblag Canal and the construction of the railroad. 

At that time Miłomłyn became an important hub for Waterways and rail, especially developing timber trade. In 1945, the town was plundered and destroyed 90% of the Red Army.

At the present time the city Miłomłyn is a very important intersection of waterways, the so called zero point Elblag Canal, from this point spread waterways in three directions: to Elbląg, Iława and Ostróda.  

There is a lot of valuable monuments of the oldest of which are fragments of the city's fortifications at the church of St. Bartholomew, Chapel St. Elizabeth from the early 30s of the twentieth century, established superintendence of 1842 defensive towers and cemetery.

In Miłomłyn is one of four sluice on the Elbląg Canal, which was built between 1872 - 1876.

There is also a small marina where you can moor to replenish stocks, eat in nearby bars, or do some shopping at the grocery store.
