Zulawy Loop and the Elblag Canal » Buczyniec Ramp

The Buczyniec ramp is the first ramp going from Miłomłyn or the last ramp counting from Elbląg. The Buczyniec ramp is located at 36 + 600 - 37 + 200 km. waterway of the Elbląg Canal.

The Buczyniec ramp is a typical ramp of the Elbląg Canal, i.e. it is driven by a water wheel, guided in a straight line consistent with the channel route line, two parallel tracks run on the slipway between the upper and lower station, on which the carts move in opposite directions. The trolleys are connected by a steel rope and are pulled between the upper and the lower position with the use of a jersey. The rope is wound on the drum of the machine, which draws energy from water propulsion.

Despite the fact that the Buczyniec ramp is a typical ramp, there are some elements that distinguish it from other slipways of the Elbląg Canal. The Elbląg Canal Museum operates in Buczyniec, where we can get acquainted with the history of this waterway - for visitors there is an exhibition of photographs and a screening of the film with the history of the Elbląg Canal. In Buczyniec, you can visit engine rooms, where you can take a closer look at its operation. In Buczyniec there is also an obelisk dedicated to the creator of the Elbląg Canal, a campsite operates between the upper and the lower station. In Buczyniec, passenger harbors of Żegluga Ostródzko - Elbląska have their marina. From the north, a concrete wharf for tourist yachts was built behind the ramp, the restrooms are located in the Museum building.

On the slipway Buczyniec from the side of Pojezierze Iławskie flows through the security gates, which are located at 36 +335 km. The Elbląg Canal. The gate is intended to cut off the inflow of water from the Iława Lake District in the event of a failure at the upper station of the slipway, normally the safety gates are always open.
