Zulawy Loop and the Elblag Canal » Zalewo

Zalewo is a small town located on lake Ewingi, in the district of Iława, connected through a Dobrzycki channel of the lake Jeziorak. Hence by Elbląg Canal you can reach the Vistula Lagoon, on Żuławy Loop, an international waterway E70 to Antwerp and Amsterdam. On the shores of lake Ewingi built a modern marina yachting with electrical connections for yachts and full bathroom.

Zalewo has over 700 years of history, originally there was a castle of the Teutonic Knights was founded around the borough. City since its inception meet important administrative and ecclesiastical - was the seat of the county and the consistory for Pomezania. Residents do not live a little, city plagued fires, epidemics and war. After the plague epidemic in 1710 in the town alive suddenly left 7 families. In the second half of the nineteenth century Zalewo experienced economic growth due to the construction of Elblag Canal and the railway line Ostroda – Elblag. After World War II Zalewo administratively became part of the Polish, and the turmoil of war suddenly left 25% of the buildings

The most interesting sight worth seeing is the fifteenth century church of St. John the Evangelist with a part of the ramparts and the tower. Notable is the school building designed by renowned architect Kurt Frick, completed in 1928. You should also go to the old part of town to watch the historic buildings. On the Sienkiewicz Street you should see the Chapel. Families, bell tower and Jewish cemetery - in good condition survived several tombstones.
